Trip to Altea

trip to altea

The beautiful town of Altea is an excellent example of Mediterranean design. Its characteristic essence, culture, architecture and design make it a popular place for tourists year after year.

Its white houses decorated with flowers on their balconies and its cobbled streets make this town of Alicante province one of the most beautiful places you can visit today in the Mediterranean.

Travelling to Altea from Orihuela Costa

Altea is located in the north of the province of Alicante between the municipalities of Benidorm and Calpe.

The distance from Orihuela Costa is about 130 kilometers. At the time of writing, there are no tolls along the way. The recommended route is via the N-332 to Alicante and then the AP-7 to our destination. We always recommend to get the AP-7 from Torrevieja because you can save two tolls you would pay if you access the motorway in La Zenia.

What to see in Altea

If you want to know what the main attractions of this beautiful town are, read on and we will show you why a trip to Altea is top recommended.

Main church

One of the main attractions of Altea is its main church. It is located at the highest point of the old town. This temple was built in honour of Nuestra Señora del Consuelo and has two domes, visible from a long distance, made of blue ceramic.

If during your visit, you find it open, it is totally advisable to access its interior.

Altea's promenade

In Altea it is worthwhile to walk down to the promenade to enjoy the charms of the town. It is a privileged place that has many bars and restaurants where you can taste excellent Mediterranean cuisine such as its delicious rice dishes.

It is common to find numerous stalls along the promenade where you can buy handicrafts.

Town Hall square

It is a space full of architecture, culture and sales of Altea’s own articles that surrounds the Town Hall Square. Its surroundings are perfect for resting, having an appetizer and continuing with the journey.

The best thing to do in this space is to walk aimlessly through the streets to find the small corners that hold unmatched charm, shops full of art and mystical temples.

Orthodox Church

On the outskirts of the town, in the Altea Hills urbanisation, you can find an Orthodox Church, the Temple of the Archangel Michael, the first of its kind built in Spain. It is a dazzling building that is well worth a visit.

El jardín de los sentidos

El Jardin de los Sentidos, is a botanical garden and rural house that we highly recommend. The access is free and the only requirement is that the visitor makes some consumption. It is an ideal place to disconnect from the world for a few moments.

Altea's beaches

In the more than 7 kilometres of coast that Altea has we can find numerous beaches and coves. Some of them have pebbles or gravel instead of sand but that will not prevent you from enjoying a fantastic day at the beach.

Among the most outstanding beaches of Altea are: the beach of La Olla, La Roda and the beach of Cap Blanch.

As you may have noticed, Altea is one of the most beautiful villages in the Valencian community. The short distance from Orihuela Costa makes it an ideal destination for a day trip.

There is no doubt that it is a destination you should visit.
