Travelling to Alcalá del Júcar from Orihuela Costa
It is located in the province of Albacete, on the slopes of a mountain and by the Júcar river. A very quiet area and surrounded by splendid landscapes that trap the tourists who visit it.
From Orihuela Costa there is a distance of 203 kilometers that will take you between 2:30 and 3 hours. The best route to arrive to this charming town is to use the AP-7 and the A-31 motorways, take the exit 136 of the later towards Alpera. From that moment on you will face 50 kilometers of country road with lots of bends so drive carefully.
Once you arrive to your destination it is very easy to disconnect from everything because of its charming and incredible nature; between pines and olive trees.
These are some of the unique landscapes that will captivate you if you decide to plan a rural visit to Alcalá del Júcar.
What to see in Alcalá del Júcar
Please find below the most important places to visit in this amazing town and why is worth a trip to Alcalá del Júcar.
San Andrés church
As the town is built on the mountain slopes, the whole journey is made by climbing and the first thing you will see is the San Andrés Church.
It is very attractive since it is in the shape of a Latin cross and its style of construction comes from 2 different periods: that of the 15th century and that of the 18th century and can be appreciated in the Manchego gothic and baroque vaults.
Roman bridge of Alcalá del Júcar
One of the best known landmarks and main attraction of this province is the Roman Bridge.
Its name is not because it has origins from that culture, but because its appearance is similar to the bridges that were built by the inhabitants of Rome in their time.
Near the bridge you will find various recreation areas, such as an island with a small park and a lake that, during the summer, is highly visited by tourists.
Water route
Passing the Roman Bridge you will find, just on the right side, a path called the Water Route. This trail surrounds the entire town; You will walk near the Júcar river, a water channel that has an amazing green color.
While doing this tour you can find benches where you can rest or relax as long as you want.
Caves
As the houses are built on the rocks, you can visit different caves. The 2 most popular are: Masagó and Diablo-Garadén; you must pay to enter both and in the first there is a restaurant inside it.
Approximately 3 kilometers from the village you will find a natural cave that was erected by Arabs; one of the few examples of robust caves on the peninsula.
Bullring
The structure of the Plaza de Toros is unmatched in the whole of Spain since it has a class of construction and a unique irregular shape, which is known as tapial.
Its construction technique is carried out mixing mud, lime, straw and stones; very similar to how adobe is made. We recommend that you admire its peculiar shape going up from one of its main streets
The Castle of Alcalá del Júcar
Another of the landmark of the town is the castle. Located at the highest point of the mountain, it contains a great history in its shape since it is of Muslim origin.
It is very small in size, its tower is like a pentagon and at its two ends are two circular towers, each with 3 floors.
In short, Alcalá del Júcar is a charming town that you cannot miss when visiting Spain.
